Anyone get stuck on the Millaa Millaa to Malanda road?

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

I was there shortly after it first happened.
This road works has not been finished and has been going on for quite a few weeks now.
Thankfully travelling towards malanda, so no damage.
That Lindsay truck was behind a few vehicles that already had the bitumen building up on their tyres.
As reported the road was fine in the morning. Well, as good as it has been for the last few weeks.
The temperature was not hot, I would say hardly moderate 22 degrees.
That photo of the road is not representative of the truth. There was loose gravel on the road, but the travelled path had a mirrored finish.
Seemed to be just one section of the new seal that failed.

98% of all Land Rovers built are still on the road.
The other 2% made it home.

Cost difference between Britpart and Genuine seals: £2.04. Knowing that your brakes won't fail at any moment: Priceless.

Similar thing happened between Katherine and Darwin years ago. Some bright young "engineer" thought they could seal the cracks in the bitumen by spraying it with kerosene to soften the surface. He thought it would evaporate after a short while, and everything would be hunky dory. Wrong! It basically melted the bitumen right through to the roadbase! First group of roadtrains through were bogged within a couple of hundred metres.
Attempting to blame this incident on the weather is nothing but spin!

I once had it happen in Turkey when there was about 100Km of freshly sprayed bitumen over the whole road surface.
I drove along the verge where possible but had to get on the road over bridges etc.
Got to Goreme with my white RRC black from the fold line on the doors down.
Went to the local petrol station and the bloke said "no worries" or Turkish equivalent.
Got out an air gun and an open can of Kero and away he went.
After several hours and I guess about $20 the car was clean as a whistle.
I don't know why the people didn't get some kero and scraper and go for it.

    Regards Philip A

People don't do that nowadays! They find it easier to complain loudly and demand compensation!

I once travelled West > East, and drove over a long, slimy new road. Free rust & sound-proofing on the wheel-arches.
Tyres were spinning fast enough to not get filled up.
