I use my phone as gps sometimes....For better traffic prediction.

I guess I will stop when I use the mobile then
Depends on the jurisdiction - basically if you have a full licence and the phone is in a cradle you can touch it to use as a GPS/music control etc. If they are going to book you for using a phone in a cradle based on camera evidence they will be on shaky ground if challenged.

How can they even see if you have a phone in a cradle if it's below dash level?

I'm surprised I've never been pinged in a 2 door for having no seat belt on........... they come out of the seat rather the door column (not very obvious in other words).

Completely agree with stopping mobile use while driving. However I have never been able to get an answer as to why it is legal to plug into Apple car play and use the car screen to use the same apps as are on your phone.

Same with making calls and reading all of the phone information off the dash, it's not that different to reading it off the phone. I guess its all an effort that is heading in the right direction slowly.

Car Play reads messages aloud but doesn't display them as text. It's designed to work using Siri for voice recognition so there is very little you should actually need to use the screen for. Other apps are specifically designed to minimise the need for screen interaction.

Precisely this happened to me yesterday. I was on my motorbike, behind a car at the lights. Lights went green - I could clearly seem them on the phone. I beeped them. Nothing. I gave a long blast on the horn. Nothing. Another long blast - they look up, realise its green and just floor it (clearly without checking the side roads). Meanwhile light has changed back to red and I'm still stuck at the intersection. Sonofa....
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

SAmething for me today , except it was a motorcycle, which spent a fair bit of time and effort to lane split dodge and weave to the head of the queue, bicycle lane , and pat of the left , only to pull out the phone and do whatever. Light turns green so engrossed he missed it . The other motorcycle riders on the bike lane couldn’t get through , nor could the cars and trucks in the left lane. I would have taken a video , but it would make me just as bad !

it will be interesting to see if 10 times the amount of fines will change driving behavior or the road toll.

I doubt it will change people behavior, in which case its revenue raising.

Although I do understand where your coming from,, but,,
I only see it as revenue raising from stupid people who either can't or won't show any intelligence by following rules/regulations/guidelines/procedures etc etc etc,,, therefore, they deserve to give their money away. Hopefully, thats all they give away, and not any ones,, including their own, lives.
