    Bait for dog trap

I have this big Doberman looking dog wandering around at nights. It bailed me up on the back lawn one night so its got to go.
I could have nailed it with the Adler but its too noisy and the neighbour that owns it would guess I shot it.
He refuses to keep it locked up. In fact it runs with a Bull terrier and he owns both.
I set up my dog trap with a back leg off some road kill but I cant entice it in.
Any one know of some attractant that will do the trick and is fairly long lasting as they dont vist every night.

Why not report it to your council.

Or if it has had a go at you, report the incident to the police.

About 8 years back, I tried to warn a local that his dogs ( 3 ) were terrorising people in the street.

For trying to help, when the council came down on them they automatically blamed me.

Since then, they have tried to break into my workshop.

They have continually driven at VERY slow speeds when ever we are behind them in THEIR OWN vehicles, but the clown also drives an RACQ breakdown vehicle and when driving that, he has repeated driven along at the correct speed then suddenly jammed the brakes on for no reason, trying to cause a tail ender.

So as above, don’t do anything yourself, let the authorities do their job.

Would have thought a longtail leg would have done the trick, tho if if has been trained as a pigger, it should have been drumed into them that longtails are off the menu.

Try the cheapest chunk off beef the butcher can sell you, or one that seem good with foxes, home brand tinned cat food with some holes punched in the can to let the sent out.

In this country (NSW) the report maker unfortunately will become the publicly identified guilty person (even if he isn't).

It must be less corrupt in the Sunshine State (deja vu?).

    Good advice!
Be careful, people get very, very attached to their pets, even if some don't keep them check as well as they should.
The potential reprisals might vastly outweigh your actions, so best let the authorities deal with the issue.

    Cheers, Mick.

    Yep call the ranger.

When my dog got picked up I also had to pay a fine for her release.

    As an ex Ranger...
Ring your ranger and get this documented . Ring your local councillor. To get things happening.
Reccomend you dont try to trap the animal yourself. It if or you gets hurt ur in a heap of trouble. By trap i mean a large cage type. Trap in a garage etc thats different.
If u do trap the animal ON YOUR property - ring ranger immediately- regardless of hour or day. Dont hide/hold it for a weekend. Give it food and water.
Dont contact owner- ur not obliged to do that.
All else fails if dog in your yard ring PC Plod and tell them you have been attacked. Dont need bite marks to prove attack. They will push ranger to act.
If in VIC insist on dog be classed as Dangerous Dog. As defined by law then PC Plot can act/ destroy it much more easily.
Use the law. Dont bait- that will bite u for sure. (Pun intended) unless u are in rural area and have cattle/sheep etc and can prove Worrying Animals. RSPCA dont like baiting.
    Good luck. Mjs

My experience is similar to drivesafe's and if you complain to a negligent dog owner then for some reason you become the problem.

Most dogs can't resist ham / bacon.

Sounds like a dog I would like .... Can I feed it and let it think my place is "home" too ? .... I like big dogs. It'll watch over your house as well if your a part of its pack The neighbour had a dog when I was younger ... big cross breed thing. It bit me once so I kicked the bastard so bloody hard I thought I'd probably killed it ...... It was my best friend after that (I guess we worked out who the leader of the pack was going to be). It wasn't until years later I admitted to the neighbour I'd kicked his dog .... "I wondered why the dog liked you" was his response .... It didn't like anyone else.

Dogs sure can be strange animals. I certainly would NEVER bait a dog, you need to be humane. I sure would shoot one that I thought was dangerous to the kids ( I could care who's it was ... if I think my family is at risk.... the dog will go bye bye).
