Question Video Crossing the Simpson Desert, in G-wagons with Mike Horn - What was the point?

Came across this video of some bloke that is supposedly well-known explorer crossing the Simpson Desert. They fly from Brisbane to Birdsville to pick up the vehicles (4 G-wagons), then drive across the desert and get to Alice springs where they flew back to Sydney all in supposedly 3 days !!! (An absolute waste of time in my opinion.....) Interesting to listen to their conversations along the way.... I'll leave it up to others to share their opinions though.....

“No water, no life, only us and nature”

I’ve never seen a bigger load of egotistical, inexperienced, nonsense.

    That's hilarious.

How can you have 'nature' without life?
'No water'? I'm pretty sure all the bushes and wildlife out there would disagree.
'Only us'?! As Deserts of the World go, the Simpson is the Piccadilly Circus of Deserts. Get stuck? Just wait for a few hours.

I haven't even seen the video but judging by these quotes, I shan't even bother, it'd be too frustrating. I agree that flying in, renting vehicles and flying out is a silly way to do it because they're missing out on the great adventure of getting out there and back (and all the glorious scenery, history and wildlife too) but I respect that for some who have plenty of money, very little time and just want to tick it off, it's a valid option to at least go and experience a Desert crossing.

I watched it all.......kept me busy during an online meeting

I doubt the video will last long as it breeches G rating....hopefully save others from editing the video

Turning CDL off and on just to kick sand up, yep no wonder the tracks are ****ed

Never seen a hi so prepared to die.....

Oh and never know when you need a head lamp in the middle of the day.....I assume it’s one of his sponsors.

Left hand drive G wagons as well

Would mind have the dosh to fly to start points and pick my rig up.....I’ve driven Brisbane to Birdsville once, would be happy to se that section from the air next time.

when that dude says something like

    "hi, I'm a FW and I'm a professional explorer ....

...that kind of said it all for me

why didn't someone tell him it had already been explored (at a sensible pace)

Professional Explorer eh....I suppose that must mean when you use a drone to film yourself chartering a plane to start a drive with vehicles prepared by someone else, on paths preceded by thousands of others before this tosser was still in nappies.
Oh well like so many things in todays world "explorer" now has a new meaning.
But in this case its just another loud mouth foreigner trying to show off.
At least they didn't bung on the Akubra and Drizabone.
