    TICKS

My brother asked me the other day to ask my daughter who is a Vet Nurse is there anythings to stop humans getting ticks.
Every time he goese to Morgan Park Race Circuit at Warwick , even in winter he comes home with ticks & needs to go to the doctors to get them cut out. The doctors are of no help. We take our dog for a tick / flee injection each year but there isn't any available for people.
So thought I would ask the question here as a lot of you go bush & thought you may have some sort of repellent that you have used & can recommend.

Teatree oil, dettol and baby oil mixed together is a very good repellant.

    Cut them out?
I/we have always used something cold (ice or special little tool things) to get ticks to let go.

Don't know about how to stop the horrible buggers, but the following is good advice:

Freeze it; Don't squeeze it! That's the latest advice from experts to Australians who have an attached adult tick.

I used to put a burning cigarrette on their bums to make them pull their head out, failing that a good spray of bushmans would work.
The best method is to not get the little blighters on you in the first place, So regular self checks and the good old teatree, dettol and baby oilj repllant worked fo me while i was working in the south west bush

Yup,a lighted cigarette held about 5-8mm away and said tick should back out, don't try to remove with tweezers,as they then inject their venom ! How do I know,my daughter was the greatest tick attractor ever when she was young, she even got one when we stayed overnight at a caravan park when returning from Sydney back to Qld,not fun for a 7 year old to have dad hold a hot cigarette tip close to her forehead boy did she yodel,it had been there a few hours too, quite full.

    cheers.
