Went to an interview for Aus. Post back in 1985, at Nundah. Walked into the waiting area, about five people waiting, three Europeans, two Asians. Fellow came out with sheet of paper, an extract from a book, in English. Said to study it, he would ask questions about it. Went in, had the interview, was told they would contact me, interview over. When I asked why no questions on the sheet of paper, he said that was only to weed out those who did not have an understanding of English. Walked out, the Asians had left. Got the job, left after 25 years.

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
