When I first started backing dollies and trailers, the old fellow who gave me some tips, said that the biggest problem was over-correcting. He reckoned when you are starting off, anything more than half a turn of the steering wheel, is too much.

If you are reversing a small box trailer with a big 4wd and cant see it till it starts turning, one option is to reverse in a bit of an arc such that you can always see it in your drivers side wing mirror. Another option could be to sit or prop something on the trailer that projects out to the side that you can see and reference from.

Not much you can do from the opposite side of the water way in a tug, except have a giggle.

I was watching a boat ramp once. At the time it was all about who knew how to put it in 4wd or not, or could get the right traction control setting, and watching guys drool over the guy with the biggest boat.

seen a few too big a boat being launched by front wheel drives and saw the front wheels spinning with no traction.

Always been my belief, Paul. The first 2 or 3 months I towed a double I believed I shouldn't have had the right. Then, I was asked to reverse one into a very tight, two turns place across a busy street in Brisbane. Nothing like a bit of pressure to sort the wheat from the chaff. I did it well, with some nerves. After that I believed I had the right.
