Disco 5 is so ugly I've been told by the family that were never going to own one, this is from the same people that survived the change from a Disco3 SE to a Defender 130. Having driven a couple I feel so removed from the offroad experience that I'm no longer an active participant, although that may be a symptom of driving a Defender for a while.
I'm hoping for good things from the new Defender and I would happily have a L494 RRS as an addition to the Defender. For me the Disco 5 is a bit of an anomaly, not flexible enough or enough aftermarket support to be a plush touring vehicle as the Disco 3 was, but not stylish enough as a comfortable gravel and bitumen tourer that can do some offroad if required.
The other factor is that wagons have gone out of favour as the touring vehicle of choice due to lower carrying capacity and the upmarket movement of Dual cab utes. Today's Ranger Wildtrack is a long way in comfort terms from a 2005 Hilux.
