I must admit to having been bogged in all our vehicles, 3 Defenders and Disco 1 and including our present D4. But really was pleased up at Carawine Gorge when I forgot where I was and drove right into the shale there with our caravan on the back.
And all the grinning apes there got the cameras out.
But into off road height, selected "rock crawl" and gently on the throttle and she walked through it easily. Just seeing the happy face of a D3 owner that was watching and the backs turned of all the apes made my day. Funny how they do that whenever a Landie does something good.
Now once I get those 18" rims and BFGs there'll be no stopping me........

If you want to see a good trick that a Puma Defender can do when bogged in soft sand, try this. It uses the Traction Control and Anti-stall to extract itself. I'm sure older vehicles with a hand throttle work much the same. Nice trick either way and a good option to have up your sleev. The car extracts itself while you go off and make a cuppa. Who says cars don't have a personality!

There is usually bugger all wrong with the capabillity of the 4WD's that get into strife on the beach regardless of the Make/Model, 99.99% of the time it is the experience and capability of the driver that is Severely "Lacking"

I'm with you on that one Trout. I often wonder how many of the people who get posted up on these videos are first timers, never to be seen in another video, as they learn from that first time, educate themselves, and so are less likely to get bogged next time vs the 4WD ding-a-lings who never learn. I'm willing to bet the average punter will learn fom their mistakes as a necessity due to their car probably being a daily driver.

Saw this on another forum thought it may have some relevance here. Similar to the above. Not a Land Rover but may be useful.

That old adage 'as slow as possible, only as fast as necessary' seems to apply well here. Compare that to the rooster tails you sometimes see when people are trying to unbog themselves...

That is taking a beach launch to a whole new level, It also demonstrates just how capable the 70 series utes are in the wet stuff.
This no different to many river crossings and flooded areas of roads that are common in our north during the "Wet"

And after trading it in the dealer will advertise as local use only, never been on a beach. When it is 5 years old it will be so rusty it will either break in half or be refused a Roadworthy Certificate.

I’d hate to be the next owner of that vehicle
I reckon there won’t be much left of it after a couple of years
