Several years ago I had an idiot run into the back of my trailer, causing slight damage to the trailer and damaging the rear crossmember on the 110. The insurer wanted write off the 110.
Actually, it was a slightly different situation, as while in this sort of situation insurers apparently make the claim on the at fault driver's insurer, in this case they were the same company. The claim was made on the other driver's policy, and as the car was driveable I was able to keep it out of their hands. The trailer I got a quote from a trailer specialist and repaired it myself - replace the override coupling and replace the tail light (actually both lights, to match) and the insurer paid me the quoted figure.
None of the local repairers wanted to look at it, as they had plenty of work fixing roo damage without taking on something 'different'. I kept at the insurer, and eventually got some action when I told them I was not renewing my property insurance with them unless they repaired it. They were then able to find a local repairer, although even then I had to find a new crossmember for them (five minutes on the phone!).
So as Johntins said - keep at them. I don't know that it will guarantee a win, but certainly you won't if you give up!
