Disclaimer: the car was reg SA. However, the process is the same. My sister drove into a ditch in Ballarat. The car was/is a 1998 VW Golf. The damage was around $4K.(Rubbish) The insurer said it was below value.
All of the above is fine. Thing is, she had comprehensive insurance with the RAA. The panel shop in Ballarat called it a "write off", and told her it would be listed as a WRO, and she would have no hope. Car a write off, value less than $2k, bad luck. Car no longer registerable. Now, I've been around cars, and the industry, for some time ( Some folk here don't get that.....), and I fought them. The quote was ridiculous, The WRO was simply wrong, her policy had been paid in full for ten years, they had no reasonable position on her policy, and I won. Her car was repaired, her policy was reinstated, and she is happy. Thing is, Mick, she had had the car for 10 years, the Insurer wanted to get rid of it, and they were in no way going to offer her a replacement. Now, she has the car she loves, no replacement necessary, and the insurer is in fact better off, as I could have fixed the car for less than $1K.As could you.
I fought the RAA insurer for my sister. I won. Never give up, even if you are a goose........Sorry.
