Was once pulled over driving SWMBO Grandmothers old Hiace camper - the Policeman said it was registered as a heavy rigid truck.... He checked the numbers, they all matched, just a SNAFU from Vicroads and he sent me on his way. He said it was a very common issue - this was 25 years ago - looks like it hasn't got any better...
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

Actually I can and they do. I was given instructions over the phone in a matter and followed them. A few weeks later I had to front the Registry with the car for inspection. I was knocked back for xyz reasons which is what I was told to do. I asked for the manager who reiterated that I was wrong. I pointed out that they record all phone calls and on such and such a date and time I was given these instructions by person A so go and check the record. He did so reluctantly and came back looking very sheepish and full of apologies.

Rego notices are sent to your last known address - a young bloke at work has changed addresses half a dozen times in the last couple of years!
In Vic you can have your rego notifications sent via email, so no excuse for not getting rego papers if you move.

I have heard a apology from vicroads once, in the early 80's my older brothers mate put a 350SBC and T400 into a BMW 323I and decked in out in JPS black and gold livery.
Went into the RTA to register it and when they asked for the engineers cert he told them he posted it in and they must have lost it, he got an apology and they promptly completed the rego on the BM .

I thought you were going to say they said "sorry, we can't register that". Sprung by ANR.

If the notice is returned to TMR by Australia Post then they mark your card. You get a please explain if you attempt to register it. TMR require verification of your address. A rent receipt, tenancy agreement or a Rates Notice. Camera fines are sent to that address by registered post.

TMR also has facial recognition software. They ran the whole licence data base and any "doubles" got a "come to the office for an interview".

And how many were pulled over due to a VicRoads stuff up such as mine?

I spent nearly a whole day at the infamous Marulan weighbridge as the RMS asserted that my PM was unregistered. I had the certificate, with an official VicRoads receipt, but they wouldn't budge. It showed unregistered on their system. Someone had to make a flying trip to an office and get them to do a manual update. I was glad it wasn't a Saturday.
