Hands down, keep your Dad's saw.![]()
After some advice on a couple of stihl saws i have, and where better than here to ask.
So i have 3 saws left out of the 5 i had, sold the bigger ones, and i am left with a 017, 032av, and a ms390.
Now the 017 will be sold, but not sure which one to keep out of the other 2.
The 032av has sentimental value, my dad (rip) bought it new about 30 years ago, it generally starts first pop and rums well, but does need the chain brake looked at, no biggy.
The ms390 has also done bugger all work, is lighter, about 15cc more, but probably worth a fair bit more coin.
I will be selling one of these as well, which will be replaced with a Milwaukee battery chainsaw.
So my question is, do i keep the 032, or the ms390, and why? I no longer need to cut firewood to keep warm, so will be purely for the sake of just having a petrol chainsaw in the shed.
Hands down, keep your Dad's saw.![]()
Given its Fathers Day yep i concur others.
3 out of 3, thanks guys, will offload the ms390 and 017

Late ring in here but yep, keep your Dad's saw. I went through all this some years ago but had no sentimental attachment to any, but culled my collection from 4 to 1 just to keep one, then sold that some years ago.
I ran an 066, 038, 039 and an 017 - although I would never have used it again, I sort of miss the 066 just for the 'Tim the toolman' type factor that went along with it. 😁 Was brilliant for wood collection despite its weight it would cut anything with ease and when cutting, you wouldn't feel it. Still my favourite saw I've owned.
I would have kept the 038 over the 039 between those 2 - it was older but seemed more robust.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
