    Some work for the 2a

On Friday afternoon I got a flat front tyre on the tractor. The front wheels are made of cast iron and are heavy. With considerable difficulty I got the wheel off and into the back of the Landrover, and this morning took it into town and got it fixed (new tube $39). This afternoon I managed the job of refitting it - see the picture.

How did I get it out of the back of the Landrover? Used the puller to slide it onto the tailgate, then set up the tripos and lifted it onto the tractor blade, set it down, then moved the tripos and lifted it again and swung it into position. Took about two hours all up. Tomorrow I will resume work on the firebreak I was making at the time.

Definitely a case of "Where there is a wheel there's a way" & certainly if you wanted to get the firebreak completed.

I mean, who else is going to do it?

I suspect it's not the first time you have used that method.

Innovative, the talents of someone that's been around a while. Done simular with d9 final drive gears after a 2 hour walk into the bush to get to the machine. These days I would get the local tyre guy out and repair on the tractor
    cheers

The wheel is the wheel weight - a single iron casting eighteen inches rim and estimated two inches thick. No detachable weights, like the rear wheels have. I guess that with the tyre it probably weighs between one and two hundred kilos. No water in the front tyres. I can just lift one edge of it when it is lying flat.

Not unusual in my experience, rather the reverse.

It comprises a heavy frame bolted to the bottom of the tractor chassis with a pivot point each side about the front of the cab just inside the track of the back wheels. On this is pivoted a 'U' shaped frame going round the front of the tractor, with a link in the middle to an arm moved by a hydraulic cylinder, the cylinder mounted on the bottom of the radiator protector and the arm pivoted on the top of the protector, which is bolted to the front of the chassis. The blade pivots on the front of the 'U', with the angle being able to be set in three different positions, controlled by a frame each side that slides along the arms of the 'U' and is pinned in one of three holes.

I'll see if I can get a picture of it some time today.

Gee's, I hope my little tractor has "normal" wheels rather than weighted. I see the issue though. Everything I want to move that is heavy and awkward I use the tractor carryall or linkage crane to move. This doesn't work when it's the tractor itself that is broken.

I see the obvious answer here .... You need to buy a 2nd tractor with a FEL that way they can lift each others heavy bits around.

That's fine unless both machines happen to be U/S at the same time.

Maybe a 3rd Tractor would be the way to go? Eeeeeeerrrr hang on, I see a flaw in my suggestion..

I find that entirely an entirely sensible suggestion. Just like I need another registered vehicle. You see I only have 5 registered/permit cars at the moment..... and have nothing that I can drive. So the obvious answer is I need another car. Maybe 6 will be the magic number
