Sounds like his mate had more sense than him!

And this goes to show (once again) that once you send anything in digital form anywhere, you have no idea where it will end up, whether you are sexting your girlfriend or boasting about your emu-killing prowess!

Yea the mate in question was recording!!! Did not seem to be complaining at the time.
Additionally it was the news that posted it i believe after the cops got the footage.

When i was young, right or wrong a mate never puts you in. Thats just not cricket!

Two emu sdecided that they were determined to demonstrate their ability to outrun a Defender.

They ran onto the road and proceeded to run ahead of me. I continued to follow them at what I thought was a safe distance but they showed no inclination to move off the road. I was trying not to tailgate them so that I wouldn't seem to be a threat, but they were determined to stay on the road. I thought Iwas far enough back that there was no chance of my hitting one.

This went on for some distance and all was well until one of them decided it was time to allow me to pass. The problem was that in moving aside, it knocked its mate over, directly in my path.

I couldn't avoid passing over it, but I did see it run away off the road. I hope it realised that it should have placed the blame for its near miss on its mate and not on me.
I have also had this in the Snowy Mountains.
Difference is i backed off a lot to allow them to calm down and head back into the bush.
    Perhaps next time.......

    Hi,
Following a mob of emus was a novelty for us coming down the Darling plains. I coasted to a stop, and some of the smaller birds came back to investigate what was this thing?
After peering at us for a few minutes, they realised the rest of the mob were far away.
Startled by this, they took off at speed to rejoin their kind who by now had moved off the road.
How could any one be cruel to such wonderful birds?
    Cheers
