This will seem to defy common sense but it is the reality.

Do you realist that you may have actually broke the law here because regardless of the situation you are not authorized to destroy protected wild life. Also - did you employ a humane method to destroy it. By this the law means a legally approved method to destroy the animal.

Spot on its illegal.

That said i would not hesitate to put an animal out of misery if safe to do so.

How far is it from running down emus, to running down people in France, London or Melbourne. The thought process is the same, depends on how much **** is in the brain. Can't say what I am thinking, sensitive members may not like it. I guess it is metaphor for modern humans.

I had an experience with emus on my way to the Bendelby Range in SA earlier this year. I didn't capture it on camera, I didn't post it on social media and I insist that it was not my fault.

Two emu sdecided that they were determined to demonstrate their ability to outrun a Defender.

They ran onto the road and proceeded to run ahead of me. I continued to follow them at what I thought was a safe distance but they showed no inclination to move off the road. I was trying not to tailgate them so that I wouldn't seem to be a threat, but they were determined to stay on the road. I thought Iwas far enough back that there was no chance of my hitting one.

This went on for some distance and all was well until one of them decided it was time to allow me to pass. The problem was that in moving aside, it knocked its mate over, directly in my path.

I couldn't avoid passing over it, but I did see it run away off the road. I hope it realised that it should have placed the blame for its near miss on its mate and not on me.

Emus will typically run ahead of you along the road, but despite this it is very rare to hit one unless deliberate - I think I have hit two in my life, one in the late seventies and the other a couple of years ago, both despite trying not to. Roos on the other hand - about one a year!

I can't remember hitting anything other animals, except the occasional bird, typically one that is more interested in the food on the road (carrion or spilled grain) than longevity, although I once hit a galah that broke the wiper blade.

I've tried several times to get pigs and rabbits, but never come even close.

Just wait till the emu's retaliate and start emu wars II
