Have you spoken to AFM to see if they have can tell you what others have done?
From memory they won’t release the trailer unless it’s got the correct permit/registration/ or is on a truck/ trailer and secured correctly.
Thanks Tote - I had found that form, and I will ring the RMS tomorrow but the problems that I see are:
I am not in the NSW system
I can’t get to a RMS office in person (I am driving up on Saturday, returning on Sunday)
I am unsure if the trailer has a VIN
In Vic you can apply for a permit online (which I have done in the past) - but in NSW it appears that you have to go in person..
They don’t make it easy for someone trying to do the right thing...

Alien is correct - pretty sure it must leave on a transport vehicle secured and checked.
i have a contact who regularly picks up at the auctions and comes to Campbellfield Vic .
he may not be going to Sydney this week , but usually does two runs .
contact me if keen , his price would be reasonable and trustworthy - would also know the the process as there are times and so on .
If it was me........
I would wing it to the vic border and once there have phone on the ready and order one online.
Actually if it was me i would wing it all the way home. Yup im a big fat rule breaker.
Hi Alien,
I have already arranged for Brad from KLR to pick-up the trailer for me (last week) - which I believe he has already done. I didn't specifically ask him how he got it from Minto to his workshop, although he mentioned that he does plenty of pickups from Minto.. So the No.5 is sitting safe and sound at KLR.
My plan was to drive my FFR to KLR on Saturday, pickup the No.5 - and then drive it home on Saturday night/Sunday... In Vic you can purchase a unregistered vehicle permit online - you don't need to go in store.. The bummer is that in NSW it appears that you must attend an office to get the permit, you can't do it online.. Compounding this - I don't think that the trailer even needs registration in Vic due to it's size - so once I get it over the border I would be fine anyway.. Grrrr
Rextheute - PM sent..
Cheers,
GG.
