Things LR should have saved from the D1

speaker placement-- the standard D2 speaker arrangement is crap, both sets at foot level,,

raised window switches-- figureing out which switch raises what window by indent is tiresome.

grab handle on nav side-- makes entry to a D1 easy.

interior door handles-- fall to hand naturally in D1, have to find by touch in D2,(will allow this as superlock is worth it)

and of course the CDL, (thanks aquarangie

i was looking at a d1 at a used car yard in newi, and was very impressed with the fold down step for the boot, well over engineered, puts the ones on the fenders to shame

Yeah it's a nice little step, till you get it hooked on a rock or tree stump and try ripping the thing off unsuccessfully 3 or 4 times... then it's just twisted metal that won't come off

Don't forget the centre diff lock, although you can fit them aftermarket unless you have a 02 model :x

The D1's are simple and cheap now, seen some bloody good examples around the Brisbane car yards for $6-8K for the V8 models. Obviously the tdi's fetch a bit more but I won't buy a diesel personally so it doesn't bother me a bit.

D2 V8's are also cheap, anyhting that consumes ooldes of fuel is ATM
