So that's why they are taking so bloody long on that intersection.
It's a joke in the region that BB Councils roads are easily the worst in the region, they are atrocious, yet they've erected a large phallus in the middle of the runabout?
Must've only gone up this week, I was there three days last week, just been up and down the highway the last few days, didn't have to go into Byron

I dont know the ins and outs of the region, but obviously it gets a massive amount of tourist traffic, and tourists dont pay council rates. So maybe the state of the roads and public art funding is more in the hands of state and federal government? I dont know.

Tourist numbers into the bay are huge, and there's only two roads in and out, this one is the main road in from the Pacific highway.
The congestion of a morning is almost Sydneyesque.
The shame is that almost all the roads across the council area are buggered, patch upon patch upon patch, potholes everywhere.
In comparison Ballina to the south and Tweed to the north have lovely roads on the whole.
I think the problem with Byron, and someone with a better handle on local government history can correct me, is that the present situation is a result of budget and planning decisions from 15-25 years ago.

I blame the bulk of the 'tourist' problem on Queenslanders coming south to find a nice, relatively quiet beach, or a beach they can surf when there's a southerly/sou'easter. Need Byron Bay member to confirm this pic (had to slip that one in Need Byron Bay member to confirm this pic)

I think its the southerners coming up for a bit of warmth in the cooler months.

Many of the beachside mansions there are owned by people from Sydney and further south.😜

True, but in terms of day trippers on any given weekend the number of Qld registered cars outnumber all others by about two to one.
Or at least half. Need Byron Bay member to confirm this pic

Visitors from north and south. Plus all the backpackers cars. Plus the major festivals bringing in the numbers. Plus the lack of train line.

There would surely be a lot more rates revenue from suburbia, and less visitors, in places like Ballina.

Did anyone notice the rings on the sculpture, they keep it from reaching full size.

    And in todays paper,

"Passing drivers have been yelling abuse at an artist working on a "phallic" sculpture at Byron Bay."

    What a waste of $55K.

A petition has also been started to pull the half built installation down....

Well, Ballina has the Big Prawn so Byron has one upped them with the The Big Dick?

The Batoota Advocate has a good article on this. I will not post it, because it could upset the ladies. You have to understand the Batoota Advocate is a satirical site.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
