I knew a former USAAC WW2 pilot who flew DC3's for Flying Tiger Line in Africa and Middle East. He used to tell stories about flying pilgrims on the Haj from West Africa to Saudi in the 50's. No seats, pack 'em in like the rush hour subway keeping an eye on the ambient temperature to ensure the poor old gooney bird could take off. Then hose out the bird after dumping them on whatever airstrip was the destination. He reckoned the pilgrims would try to bring goats, chickens, and firewood on board for consumption on the trip.
I bet they were not the only things they left behind either. A job for a big Karcher I reckon.[smilebigeye]
