I couldn't see in the pics, but did you flip the spring bolt also? The bolt head is what the axle locates on and the excess threaded bolt can prevent the axle from seating on the spring properly if its not also flipped.
I didn't, but the axle with its welded plate with the hole in it seemed to be thick enough to cover the spring bolt/nut on the othe side, there were not many threads prodruding out, and is sits flush. I will double check though.
