    Port Douglas options

Am going to be in Port Douglas end of April for a family holiday

Will be flying into Cairns and have a hire car from the airport

Has been many years since I have been up that way so was wondering what people on here might recommend while am there

If you are looking for things to do away from the shops in Port Douglas.
A trip to Mosman National Park just out side of Port Douglas . I have always asked people who have been to Port Douglas if they went to Mosman & most say no & my response to that is well you waisted your fuel then.

A drive to Cooktown is good also , there a different lot of people there , very layback. quite a few Land Rover people there. The owner of the museum owned his own Land Rover club a few years back , not sure if he is still there or alive though.

Then there is also a drive to Gods Country, Atherton Tableland . Before I retired I worked in Cairns about four times a year , come the weekend I was out of there up onto the Tableland , there is so much to see , you could go somewhere different every weekend of the year.

They are all good day trips.

Not knowing your likes and dislikes, it's hard to know what to recommend.
If like me, you don't like expensive, touristy guff, bail out of Cairns ASAP, bypass port Doug and avoid Kuranda. Having said that, the Skyrail one way and train the other almost makes Kuranda bearable.

Comment also applies to the Malanda Dairy Museum.

This is just a quick, few suggestions from the top of my head. Tell us what appeals to you and the ideas can be refined.
When I lived in Cairns, we'd go to a different Nationality restaurant each Friday night; we never got through them all!
As 1950landy said, the drive (preferably ride) to Mossman is well worth the effort.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

It's been a few years but the War Museum at Mareeba is worth a vist. He has a Bell Aircobra which is pretty rare and I think the only Cruiser tank in the World .
Just south there is Granite Gorge , home of the unadorned Rock Wallaby. I guarantee you will not find a cuter creature on Earth. When we camped there one came up and sat on my foot, and the babies are just like a cuddly toy.
