Thread: Cordless gardening tools...No thanks

Got a pic of the lawn....it not quite your average grass, my little 4 stroke would have done it much easier. Needed two batteries for the front yard.



Back yard was standard everyday yard and I wizzed around in no time.

Given my investment in petrol chainsaw, brush cutter and mower I highly doubt I’ll be buy the current generation cordless gear. Will see what it looks like in 10 years time

Nice lawn! My dog would love to take a **** on it - he always goes for the best looking gardens or waits until we are down the street just to embarrass me I think. (Yes I always clean up after him)

Er nope, I think my TD5 perform quite well against previous 4WD I’ve owned.

Get bigger batteries, maybe 4 or 5 amp.

They were 4amp/hr....the size of the battery doesn’t make it perform better....just means you can cut for longer between changing batteries.

For what I do with the petrol driven tolls I haven’t seen any 18v cordless tool that can match it. I’m not interest in taking twice as long and having to change batteries and the job isnt as good.

I’m sure the 36V and 50+ volt stuff might have more balls but I have seen any of them in action. I was reading on another forum about a lawn mowing guy had switch to cordless, the big commercial gear and he said it cost him a bomb to set up and it was a good decision.

Like you having invested in cordless garden care gear off course your not going back to petrol due to the cost involved....same with me, I’ve have a stihl saw and Honda mower and brushcutter and it was quite an investment five years ago, I cannot quite bring myself to switching to the bigger than 18v cordless garden care gear based on change over cost.

I have a bunch of Milwaukee 18v cordless tools, based on the ryobi I have now used I won’t be buying any Milwaukee garden care gear other than the leaf blower I have as it sucks the juice but does an awesome job. I have 3 x 5amp/hr and 2 x 9amp/hr batteries with two 12v chargers and one 240v Charger in my tool bag.

Maybe in 10 years when my current garden care equipment needs replacing I’ll see what the market has to offer.
