Trust me, I'm sure Mercedes are quite comfortable with the fact that this vehicle is in no way a threat to the G-Wagen. The Gurkha and Mahindra Bolero (another boxy G-wagen/Defender-esque 4x4) are just the most appallingly built, flimsy things in the flesh. Most bits of trim generally break in the first 6 months and the mechanical underpinnings whilst being made for repair from any one of 10 million roadside mechanics, are not at all solid. Lack of airbags aside, most western markets just wouldn't put up with the build quality and warranty repairs would send any importer broke.
The engine and gearbox are 'Mercedes derived' does that mean sourced from Mercedes or built to the Merc design ?
The Mahindra Bolero looks familiar.

Ooh but the M Hawk Bolero is more “Peppy”!
Both look like false economy to me both in terms of quality and design.
But if they are simpler mechanically and more affordable they may be perfect in many markets.
The manorulity of global consumers can’t afford $80-120K for a vehicle.
