Did they have any EV charging stations , by any chance ?
On a drive yesterday, through the Maleny, Witta, Obi Obi, Mapleton, Nambour areas, I noticed three, very recently constructed, service stations.
This got me wondering whether the fuel companies know something that us cattle are not privvy to or, that they're making hay, while the sun shines?

Norway leads the way for EV's.
At the core of the Norwegian approach is the mantra that EVs should be cost competitive at point of purchase. This has been achieved through reduced vehicle registration tax, reduced company car tax and zero VAT, and enhanced through exemptions from road tolls, access to bus lanes and free access to ferries”, wrote Audrey Quicke and Richie Merzian for The Driven. Tax is the lever pulled by the Norwegian government to accelerate the transition to clean vehicles

Take it for granted that banks won't finance this stuff unless the numbers add up. And it's pretty unlikely that it's being done without a loan.

Yes. The major capital in a service station is usually the real estate, and that will still be there. The financial case for the build will not look more than ten years into the future. Not as if it is something like a road or a railway.
Although along those lines NSW is spending a lot of money building a new service centre in Dubbo for the next generation of fossil fuelled trains - which I don't think are even being delivered until 2022.
