I got to the stage where I could do it as I was driving.[bigwhistle]

WOW! not this little black duck. I make sure on a long drive I stop & have a walk every 2 hrs. so I don't have to have them.
I was flying back from Tasmania couple of years ago flight was just over 3hrs & half way back the guy next to me said he had to go for a walk because he had Factor V & I said so do I for same reason . Small world hay.[bigrolf]
I had a TKR on my right knee about 6 years ago. Total relief from the pain and made me much more mobile. They had me up and into physio the next day and I went to the local hospital for a daily full on workout for about 10 days.
Having that knee done took the stress of my left knee although now I do seem to be suffering a bit every now and again.
I took none of their pain killers ..oxycodone? or something. The only real problem I had was the cold feeling in my knee at night so I took a hot water bottle to bed. :)
A lady who had the same op. at the same time pleaded with me for my pain killers.... I think she was well and truly hooked.
Good luck.

Bit late for the OP but may be of use to others who are contemplating knee replacements.
There red is a new physio program from Denmark being rolled out around Australia called GLA.D
It was originally developed to help people strengthen their muscles prior to knee and hip replacement. But what they found was lots of people didn’t need the surgery after doing the course.
I just did the course, not a candidate for knee replacement, but I’ve had knee reconstruction many years ago and they were playing up so tried the physio. Didn’t work for me.
But there were a couple of people (only total of four on course) who went from significant pain to no pain and getting back to normal life. One woman couldn’t even peddle one revolution on the warm up bike at the beginning and slept in a chair every night. After six weeks she could peddle easily and go back to sleeping in bed.
Worth investigating I think

I don't think this this would have helped me except to prepare for the OP . When there is no Cartilage & the bones are grinding together. It probably would have helped 8 years ago when I first went to see my doctor & there was still some Cartilage there. The best thing I took back then was Rose -Hip Vital. Any way thanks for that I will look it up may help with recovery.
Alan, you are one of only 4 people I know of who had virtually no post op pain (thick skin?[bigwhistle]), and the poor woman was obviously at the other end of the pain continuum (and there have been plenty). Me as usual somewhere in the middle. I doubt it is as much to do with the skill of the surgeon as to each individuals physiology as it certainly is an extremely invasive procedure. We should be thankful!

I'am on Xarelto tabs 20mg @night after meals, since I had my mild stroke, just helps make my blood thinner, like coloured water now[bighmmm] I have found that keeping my weight down helps with knees, left has no knee cap, right 6 s/s staples, just need a stick to get around now.
cheers Uncle Ho.

Not thick skin in my case Gavin...... just a thick head. Thought I'd better say it before someone else did. :)
I've got bloody knife wounds all over me now and none have really caused me much post-op pain thankfully. Must be all that pain killer I drink.
Cheers.

I spent the whole day yesterday at the hospital Pre Admission Clinic along with five wemen who were having either knee or hip replacements done next week, were I met with nursing staff , physio , chemist , ect. They went through what was going to happen before the OP , what to eat before & after the OP , what aids I will need once home , what of my medication I can take morning of OP . Also went for ECG , Blood Test & Chest X ray. Also measured me for stockings to prevent blood clots & spoke to me about the extra measures they would be doing to prevent blood clots with my Factor V.
By the time I finished I was stuck in the Friday afternoon traffic
So by the time I got home I was buggered.
So have to be at hospitak at 6am Monday .
