It will not work for some Mick. Almost nothing will. There is heaps of jobs for those willing to move to them. Always will be I think. Not saying some aspects of the program are perfect. It does come back to who and how it is organized and most importantly the motivation of the job seekers.
There are jobs but not many. Depends where you are, in a remote or rural area the only jobs are few and the likes of making coffee. At what point do you say the jobs are available you didn't take the offer so now you have no income? Next town? How do people without transport get to the next town? If they do have a car then how are they going to pay for the fuel to get there? My young bloke was unemployed for a fair while and seemed he was only fodder for scams run by private mobs to get people off the dole at any cost. The "Employment consultants" made more money out of stopping dole payments than actually getting people jobs so that's what they did.Quote:

People used to go crook about the likes Railways, electricity commissions and the PMG. Now it's all been privatized there are no jobs. Roads, railways and infrastructure have had very little spent on maintenance let alone new build. The local shires total road funding is spent on "Rough road ahead, slow down" signs and a few potholes are repaired by the cheapest quote and don't last more than a couple of weeks. Power companies don't maintain lines, bare minimum repairs by 10% of the workforce that used to do the job.
All these problems are going to be cured by getting some dole bludgers to work for the dole?
Let’s see , how far do you expect poeple to move from there families and social networks? I tried looking for work in WA a few years ago , as did my wife. When an application was noticed, the response was wait a few months til the opening was ready. Til then live of the free air cause no money was coming in and accomodation, food and auto associated bills kept coming in. After a few months of this , it was time to leave. Savings long gone.
In some places there just are not many jobs. That's just a fact.
The employment agency people just churn people through on a tick and flick basis so they can bill the government, but people don't get work out of it.
Privatising the system was just an ideological obsession which didn't help people get jobs.
It's just rubbish to argue that punishing people for not getting jobs that don't exist will somehow motivate people to find work. It just doesn't happen.
A mate of mine takes his van and does seasonal work. Never short of it. North to south it occurs. I agree it is often short term and needs planning skills to make it work.Quote:

Sitting around at remote communities where there is Bugger all work or industry living off government handouts is BS, If there is no work where you are go look somewhere else and be prepared to live away from home for a while.
I have done this most of my working life From shearing sheds, Minesites and remote fishing work, Yes is tough But I was always gainfully employed and when I wasn't working I had enough in the bank saved up to make a bit of a holiday out of it.
Working even when you are thousands of K's from home for weeks or months at a time is a MUCH better option to working for the dole and cowtowing to some bloody public servant for a few quid.
Even if you can only get the basic wage it is Much better than the pittance you can get jumping hoops at Centerlink[thumbsupbig]
About six jobless for every job, higher in some places, lower in the capital cities, last time I checked.
