I hear a lot of 'In some areas there aren't many jobs' - yep, but it doesn't mean you have to accept that - Many years ago I ended up not being able to find work or work that suited me in the area I grew up in - easy solution - we moved to where the work is. Centrelink paid for part of the move too although I'm not sure they still do this but it got us where the work was. There's always a way if there is the will...
Trouble is there's a lot without the will...
Oh and before someone says 'People shouldn't have to move from their family/area' - I call BS on this - the Country doesn't owe anyone a living. Go find a job where the jobs are, get some experience and some money then look at going back to where you want to be when you have what it takes to get a job there. I've been away from where I want to be for 20 years doing what I need to do so I can go back to where I want to be later on.
There's tonnes of work going overall - I know people that can't get people to even turn up to do a days work and they are paying far in excess of the award wages.

just because they do 12 months in the army doesn’t mean they are going to walk into a job once they have finished.
Considering most would be pushed into doing infantry they won’t get much out of 12 months in usable skills, they will get a reasonable wage, 3 feeds a day and a roof over there head.
Now given the defence force is short on numbers I.e. not enough punter volunteering to join. Just think about the attitude of punter that are forced to join, some will go with the flow but a good number won’t which becomes a headache or all....of that don’t want to be there than its defiantly a WOFTAM.
trust me I’ve been there and created the headaches for the system on and off for nine years and I stupidly signed up on my own accord.. The system had to put up with me for nine years....than they tried to talk me into staying.....go figure I said so I reminded to look at my conduct record, even funnier it was even a RAEME office trying to talk me into staying, the RAOC office said good point when I highlighted this and said sounds you have it all sorted..........I’d found another job and was leaving, oh the look on there faces when I was tricked them and dodged the six months notice period and was out in nine days. But that a long story l, too long to type today.
As much as I hated my time in the force, and the post service treatment but If you think loading the defence force with unemployed is a good idea than you’re poorly informed. Apparently the defence force is to protect Australia, baby sitting unemployed for 12 months would hardy be called there core business.
Actually why doesn’t the government enforce the unemployed onto business, local government.....state government. Yeah won’t happen but if it did the unemployed would get more life skills than 12 in the army.

yes. local councils can benefit from a large workforce. repairing roads, landscaping areas, cleaning up nature reserves. plenty of jobs that need low skilled labour/manpower.
i see anything like this better than just handing out money for no return.
What i meant when i said "Knock on doors" was to be "Proactive" when looking for work instead of just waiting for Centrelink or one of their providers to send you for a job interview You CAN also literally knock on doors and ask if there is any work as well, Thank you for your cynicism.Quote:

Some of my Grandkids have entered the workforce recently and they had No problems getting employed even though Geraldton WA isn't any better than the rest of Aus as far as job vacancies go.
No they didn't get positions as rocket scientists or company directors But they are earning their OWN money and 2 of them are now in an apprenticeship, So it CAN be done even in this day and age.
Working for the dole won't work for everyone But it may be enough incentive for Some to try Harder to gain employment and break the cycle of welfare dependency, What is the alternative, Do NOTHING??
