    Aluminium driveshaft suppliers

Has anyone had a aluminium tailshaft made to order? If so, where.
Looking to get something made up for the other car. Single piece shaft with a slip yoke on one end, and a cv arrangement on the other. Trying to not have something imported.

I would talk to Harrop about it. They can provide serious and fully engineered solutions for serious vehicles. Obviously not going to be cheap, but will do the job .

    Interesting.
The shaft is for the 300zx. It has a factory 2-piece unit with centre bearing that has **** the bed after 28 years of punishing service. I am looking to make it a 1 piece for simplicity.

I spoke to a gearbox place today (MTF, rick) off chance that they could recommend a place... but to no avail. The guys there mentioned what I was chasing was similar to a non specified falcon with a similar CV end and slip yoke combo... but I'm yet to get any measurements of mine to see what I need. If I could get an alloy 1 piece falcon part to work with minor mods, it'd be payday...

Hey Mitch, had any luck with this?

Not wanting to dampen your enthusiasm, but a few things to consider...
Car companies hate spending money unnecessarily (I know, I work for one!), so if the original propshaft design was 2 piece, it's probably because engineering a single piece was too hard.
A single piece prop will lower the first bending mode of the entire driveline, increase the hung mass on both the gearbox and rear diff and probably increase noise and vibration. More importantly it potentially has implications on top speed. If the bending mode gets lowered significantly, you run the risk of getting into the first resonant mode of the propshaft at high vehicle speeds. Seen this happen. Not pretty!

The single piece Falcon prop was at the time I think the longest single piece prop going (certainly in Ford) and had a significant effort into mass, diff gearing, tyre sizes etc. to make sure it worked.

No idea about 300z driveline, tyre sizes or gearing, so it might work. You might just have to put up with more noise/vibration and a lower top speed! Probably cert/engineering implications too. Unless there is another variant of 300z that already has a single piece prop?

Stock Falcons are also speed limited to 180KM/H due to the aluminium tail shaft if this matters. Not sure what the XR8 and FPVs had fitted.

Limited more due to the sheer length of the driveshaft rather than the material. FPVs and 'proper' XR Utes got 2-piece 2.5" steel shafts from BA onwards. The AU Pursuit 250 (stroker engine) was the only one with 2-piece before that (and huge rear DC joint). All Ford sedans went to 2-piece and IRS from BA onwards. AU Falcons ran 1-piece aluminum. 3.25" on sedan and 3.75" on Ute from memory. Most were fitted with torsional dampers of varying frequencies depending on application (boom, gearmesh, etc). Aluminium shafts were used before that and phased in over time. EF & EL wagons were aluminium, for example, and some sedans esp. XRs/GTs. They were all Dana/Spicer.
VE onwards Commodores ran a light and strong 2-1/8" CrMo 2- piece shaft. UniDrive made those.
