The interesting question of course, is how you "recognise the feelings" of both the dog and the contributor of the meat you are feeding it!
In an Australian first, the ACT may legally recognise animals' feelings - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
I can see the animal rights activists frothing at the mouth trying to get this across the line. If it makes it so arseholes that don’t look after their pets can be prosecuted easier I’m all for it. If it means I become an outcast because I still enjoy a steak, not so much.
I’m sitting here eating patè and feeding some to Wes, so I guess I’m ok. I’m also on a first name basis with my Vet because of the little turd (don’t own a Pug if you don’t like like regular visits to your vet) but I love him to bits and would move mountains to make sure he is ok. I see so many animals that are just there ‘because’ or were once loved and now not which is so sad. Next doors dog is a classic example. Bought as a Christmas present for the 2 girls there but now spends his whole life in the backyard. I think he likes me more than them as I feed him tid bits, pat him through the broken fence paling down the back and talk to him when I’m in the garden near his fence. Lovely little fella he is, the neighbours not so much.
Anyway, will see what happens, I doubt the sky will fall in either way, but an interesting concept.

I see NZ has recognised a river, so why not a dog?

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
I have a book called "What Dogs Want" by Arden Moore...she has written 24 pet books.I'm not sure if that actually means anything.
This book identifies 100 postures, expressions , sounds and actions and how you might respond.
I have read it a couple of times and referred to it more than a few times.
I find myself recognising many of the "messages" described.
The film Red Dog shows a lot of what this book illustrates.
My dog is a red dog too.
If you need a law to tell you when an animal is being mistreated, you may have a bigger problem!
Personally, I think that anyone proposing any new law, should first have to identify three old laws that can be rescinded. We are waaay too over-governed now!

I can think of two laws at the moment that I would be happy to see gone.
