    Winter is coming.

    Time for the slow cooker!. The secret to cheap lamb? buy a lamb from your friendly farmer, butcher it yourself. Or get your friendly butcher to do it.

    I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

    A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

    Try this one. Might have to see the Bank manager to buy the lamb. But worth it.

    Mutton is more tasty than lamb. Few butchers carry mutton these days. You can usually get it at halal butchers. When I was young and living in Winton we rarely ate lamb which was considered tasteless. A big fat crossbred 3 y.o. western wether that had been fattened on Mitchell grass, Cooper clover. and saltbush. Lovely grub.

    YUMMM!

    When we were living out bush, on properties around Ilfracombe and Hughenden, Dad was allowed a killer, once a month, I think. There wasn't one part of that sheep that wasn't used. The dogs got the offal, we ate the rest. I love lamb. Don't like the cost of it now though.

    I usually crave pea and ham soup, cottage pie and stews with dumplings during the colder months of the year
    Roast mutton/lamb can be enjoyed any time of the year and it is great hot or cold

    Bring on winter. My favorite winter stew is beef cheek ragu. Takes a few hours but here goes;

    Just Cook It: Beef Cheek Ragu

    Best with home made pasta.

    I reckon a recipe thread would be good. I only cook on weekends because I'm bad at cooking practically but give me a (fair) few hours, a heavy casserole dish and a few beers and I'm a pretty happy guy.
