Trivia and other useless but interesting items

Just watching the Vineyard workers placing stakes in the soil from a distance. No not chucking them.


Instead of Hammering Treated posts in they are using what appears to be Steels Pickets galv (?) plated & are just pushing them in with the bucket of an Excavator. Stakes appear to be about 7' or 8' high & they go in as far as a bloke's nut say 6'. They just walk along pick up a Stake & by that time the excavator is at the new position & in goes another one.

All to do with better unadulterated Wine because the ground is not being saturated with leeching of the timber preservative & being taken up by the roots.

The old vineyards are still timber treated post but I guess one day they will also go.


All layout is set by a Surveyor & preliminary marker pegs are Chopsticks ffs. Thousands of them.

As one who is revered for showering gifts on my dear wife, I have found that this 12v pruner is, quote ' The best pressie, ever'! [thumbsupbig]
Apparently, it's even better than the 12v, 150 litre spray tank, the 50 litre spray tank, the 550cc ATV and the 4 stroke, Honda brush cutter she has previously received from me, not to mention the trailer for the ride on!
Woohoo, I'm in the good books for a few hours.[bigsmile1]

I have to say that it is a magic little gizmo and for its size and 12v power, punches above its weight. Helen's getting a good hour or so of cutting time with about an hour and a quarter recharge time. An hour of pruning with this little fella would be two to three hours plus, with secateurs or shears.
It will definitely be coming on our camping trips for firewood production.

Pros: Light, well balanced, solid, small battery, fair dinkum saw chain, easy to clean, safe.
Cons: Manual oiling (supplied little bottle), comes in a folding cover rather than a box. Both minor issues.

Off for a walk yesterday when Ambulance lights and sirens came rapidly. Two lanes of road both ways. At least 90% of traffic were in the Right hand lane. Almost all only moved over as the Ambulance was directly behind them after all slowing down in the right hand lane. Traffic light went red with just one in front of the ambulance. Ambulance went through the red light safely by driving over to medium strip[bigwhistle]. About 30 seconds late a second Ambulance followed by a police car had the same fun. A minute later the same for the third ambulance. I'd guess the average speed of the Ambulance was reduced by at least 50% by the right lane gurus [bigwhistle] Also assume it was a category One which here is Heart attack/stoke life threatening issue where minutes do count.

My trivial observation is well noted by most. 90% driving in the right hand lane at all times well below the speed limit can be 'interesting' at best. Life threatening at times perhaps? Other trivial observation is my view that people teaching L platers to remain in the right lane at all times should be unable to teach L platers

Yep, ND. I nearly got cleaned up by a driving school vehicle, the single occupant of which, so one would assume 'Instructor', thought that the use of the left hand indicator was required from when first entering a 4 way intersection R.A.B. to eventually taking the third exit. A bloke in the second exit started to take off as well but realised the error in time.

Seems to me Driving School Instructors are some of the worst drivers on the roads, especially when they are driving Solo.

It is no wonder some student Drivers are rat****.



I suppose they never give it a 2nd thought that their Driving School advertising is plastered all over their vehicle usually with a Phone No & they believe they are driving an un-marked car.

A few years ago I did a weird thing. Xrays (CT Scan) of a deer. The deer was dead much to the relief of at least one vet who had done studies on live deer in QLD [biggrin]


The images are magic I felt. First time ever. What was remarkable was lead which showed up so perfectly from a mates bullet. Trivia is I made a seemed to make a huge mistake by showing a few people who love lead bullets[biggrin]

It wasn't a mistake. It was unappreciated science [thumbsupbig]
