Those Jarmies probably cost a whole lot less than the $25. Probably are not even at cost from some faraway sweatshop. They must have Hangars full to the skylights of this gear. One hopes they are not Made in China.

Now about those Tim Tams, off the shelf stuff?. Standard or Double Chocolate Coated?

But good luck to them if they see Morale going down the pan & wish to do summat about it.

I have seen marksmen above me aiming at sharks beside or below me more than a few times. Sharks and bullets did not meet once honest. I would trust that man to take the wings off a fly at about 1000m or even a lot further in air but not water. 7.62mm was our bullet. I assume a bullet would be catchable in my hand at a bit more than 50cm under the water. Deadly before that. Add refraction and spear or shooting from above the waters is a lot more challenging than most realize.

We did get to play and test that theory a long time before Myth Busters got to try it. The angle of the shot is one of the main issues on penetration in water.

Speer fishing I did take a few sharks when I was young and not informed. Fishing I always let them go except smaller gummies. Big ones always go home as they are all girls.

If you have ever seen a bullet ricochet off water,you would know how dangerous it is shooting at water.

Sure it all depends on angles,etc,but it can still be extremely dangerous.
A bullet can travel miles after a ricochet.

The Error of Parallax which you mentioned above (refraction) would be a huge factor in trying to hit something underwater from above water, well, except the bottom of course. Then there is Density of the water although not high on the list but nevertheless.


Still reckon a Depth Charge or two is the way to go. Don't bother about those swimming. eg. The Cruel Sea when Ericson dropped a few amongst swimmers from a sunken ship & the Compass Rose's crew watching (assuming the bodies) flying overhead. Of course they never showed that but just left it to one's imagination. A tough choice, the U Boat or the Crew? But these things must have happened in real life.

Then the bloody Seagulls arrived for a feed.

I watched 'Grey Hound' a few weeks ago. Good expect for the submarines being faster than the ships and keeping up for seemingly several hundred km. Depth Charge or two was a few too many at one point in that movie.

They were revolutionary in their time. totally redundant with advent of effective homing or guided ship or aircraft launched torpedoes.

We did use 'Flash Bangs' in the water a lot. Not as much bang as a depth charge but hurt like hell if they when bang to close to me when diving. Ears bleeding was a close enough call for me!

Well I am a bit of the olde fashioned bloke so I'll settle for a couple of standard WW2 Jobs when I read that the Nuke ones have a range of 8km probably more today.

A Fish Vendors best friend no doubt. Problem there is all the fish would glow on your plate or in the Wrapping Paper. Hhmmm, one could see themselves safely home at night from the local Chippie.
