Sheepdogs: Why are some UK dogs selling for £27,000 or more?

The humble sheepdog has been an integral part of British farm life for centuries, but never before have they commanded so much respect - or money.
The past two years has seen unprecedented prices recorded for specially bred and trained dogs at agricultural marts.
Many of the top dogs are now coming from Wales, including a border collie called Kim from Ceredigion, which sold for a world record £27,000 last February.
Sheep farmer and dog-handler Emrys Jones, from Barmouth in Gwynedd, said he regularly fields calls from across the world asking about his dogs, with 40 going abroad to places such as South Korea, Japan, Australia, Norway and the USA at a recent sale.
"The old boys wouldn't believe what's happening nowadays," he said.
Michael Priestley of Farmers Weekly said: "Better dogs cost more but better dogs make the job of gathering in sheep much quicker and they minimise labour cost.
"It's an investment that can pay off."

The guy next door has Cattle dogs,i think they are 'Blue' cattle dogs, whatever that means.
He has just sold 6 pups for $5K each, not a bad $30K,less a few vet bills and food.
And that is with no papers.

    Our Springer Spaniel was $500 12 yrs ago.Her pups went for $1K each 8yrs ago,with papers,she had 6.
I rang the kennel about another one maybe 6 months ago, they said $4K each,no papers(ours has papers)
And at least a 9 month wait, maybe longer.
Or you can have a poodle cross for the same price in around 8 weeks.

    So we are still thinking....

Pfft, pooches are cheap, how about a nag for $550,000. It's not even EU6 compliant.

From my experience it means they are snappy little bastards. Not snappy as in dress sense but snappy as in bad tempered little ****s.

Don't blame me either, I get along very well with Border Collies, but then, doesn't everybody.

    Blue Heelers.
Is a Blue Heeler a good family pet?
The Australian Cattle Dog: Family Dog and Intelligent Companion. Australian Cattle Dogs, also called Blue Heelers, are extremely alert, pleasant pups with keen intelligence and a fierce sense of loyalty. These faithful friends are not considered aggressive and can be an excellent fit for families with kids.

Ballcocks! You wanna see a scar or two?

Perhaps it was the Deodorant I used on the day?

Possibly Paul, but would you want to take them" Walkies" away from the yard?

    1. Change to Chain Mail walking outfit.

    2. Grab Cudgel off the wall.

    "Walkies" & off you trot.

They wouldn't make much of a Watchdog/ attack pony.

Burglar asking said horse if anyone is home?
Of course the reply would be "Neigh squire" & you'd come home only find your gaff had been turned over ".
