Thread: How many Litres do you use to drive 100Km?

Hello Kando,

I run a 93 V8 auto which lives in the country, we don't have the problems of the city here, like traffic or traffic lights to slow our progress, so my figure may be skewed, relatively: 16 litres / 100km

However, I had a new 95 with a 3.9 in Sydney which got thru 80 litres for just 320 km, but on long runs which it did often, showed 14 litres /100.

Depends where you drive.

Some of the others here record much better figures than me, 'cause they really look after their LRs.

I had a look at ebay last night, good time to buy! There's plenty of RRs and Discos around for not much more than lunch money.

As Quiggers has said.. it REALLY depends on the type of driving. The stories you here up around 26 Ltr /100k are either guys that run everywhere full noise.. or are in heavy sand or similar offroad.

My disco is the newer 4.0 ltr and I get around 19ltr/100 stop and go around town and about 15-16 on the highway. ( that said I do drive it hard)

My neighbor who has a 91 Auto 3.9 Rangie around town is a little better than mine about 18 and on the highway gets down to 14.

When you compare the numbers to your ford.... don't forget the ford 6cyl isn't trying to push 2 tonnes plus of car. it also is not full time 4x4 so not really a fair comparison.

It you are really concerned about fuel cost though..... go to a turbo diesel

i do have a lot of wind resistance and weight.....
it has bull bars and roofracks with antennas and spotties.......
and dont forget the great aerodynamics........</span>

Getting on avg 10lt per 100 from tdi disco on normal diesel fuel.
Best achieved was 8.5lt per 100 that was on a rare week that i didn't go up the beach.
Worst week was 12lt per 100 that included three days on stockton beach and was towing a trailer on the sand(not all the time though).
Nearly all my driving on road is a mixture 50/50 in and out of town and i do around 1200k's a week.
By the way Bill was it you who said you can make biopetrol? if so how the hell do you do that. I'm sure lots of people would be interested.

I run a 2.2L 4 cylinder manual day to day and only get about 9.5L/100

Just wondering if it was time to change my daily ride to a defender with those kind of figures.

As you run a TDi you should be talking BioDiesel, not BioPetrol BioPetrol is just another name for Ethanol and, with a proper converter fitted in your MPFI car you can run on straight petrol, straight ethanol or a mix of ethanol and petrol, you simply flip a switch for whatever fuel you're running on. The switch is similar to the LPG switch in a gas/petrol conversion where you flip over from petrol to gas or gas to petrol...but you only have the one fuel tank...no extra tank involved.
There are also a couple of other pretty simple but very important items you need to know about your vehicle! You need to know which injectors are fitted in your vehicle, you need to know if the Ohms at the injectors conectors are High, Medium or Low.
(High Impedance: 14-16 OHM, Medium Impedance: 12 OHM, Low Impedance: 2.2-2.4 OHM)
You also need to know which injector Connector Type is used, the Bosch EV1, Bosch EV6, Delphi, NipponDenso or the NH1 Connectors.
Everyone would think the local car factory that builds the vehicle, or the workshop that has the franchise to repair your vehicle would be able to give you this info' in two minutes flat! No So!
For instance, when I contacted the Ford factory here in Geelong to enquire which injectors they use in the 1992 Ford Fairlane Ghia, vin # xxxxxxx, the technecian told me: We use Ford injectors!
When I pointed out the fact that Ford did not manufacture injectors for their range of cars, they purchased them from other manufactures!
He stated that that was news to him! (How do these guys get their positions?) Anyway, I found that the 1992 Ford Fairlane Ghia uses Bosch injectors by stripping out one of the injectors from the car.
There's quite a lot more to cover on running a car on biopetrol and as it's almost 3am I need some sleep, if you're interested, PM me.

2000 Rangie Vouge - trip computer says 13.5l/100km

2001 V6 Freelander - from around 11l/100km

I am currently driving a 2005 Rangie Sport supercharged V8, very nice and the trip computer says 16.5l/100km but the owner is a lead foot and I have not reset the computer so my comsumption will be better. My Rangie (2000 Vogue) was his last vehicle and when we got it, the trip computer had his comsumption at 17l/100km

Our 2000 Troopy 4.2 diesel non-turbo. Did a test up the Newel last year. At 90kph (cruise control) 10l/100km, at 100kph 12.5l/100km - mind you it has the areo-dynamics of 2 bricks. Average for us is around 12l/100km day to day running.

Most of our driving is on the open road at around 100kph.

85 Rangie with 4BD1, 315x75x16 Procomp XTerrains, 4.11 diffs, LT85 & LT230

Ave 8.5L/100km
Best 7.4L/100km
Worst 9.8L/100km
