Does anyone else feel Trump has failed to elicit the fear response he was after from ‘his’ trading partners?
And hence has been forced to actually put these tariffs on? Incant imagine too many Americans backing him when they realise THEIR iPhone is now 57% dearer than last week, when THEIR television costs 57% more than last week etc.
If really wanted to reinvigorate American Industry there were other policies to put in place and maybe a bit of patience to allow it to build.
There be a bit of mess as we all find new dance partners for trading but I think the USA will feel a bit of pain. That’s bad in my eyes as I kind of like American aircraft carriers riding the high seas while Chinese, Indian, Brazilian or other military hegemonies are maybe less benign

I guessed perhaps Trump thought that the McDonald Islands exported French fries to America which is why he imposed a tariff or that he thought McDonald's was frying chips in penguin grease, but it turns out they export Patagonian tooth fish.
