Sorry, couldn't help myself even though I know facts don't belong in this thread at all. Please forgive me. [emoji56]
How much fuel for a two hour flight?
The plane was still airborne ([bighmmm]) decades later so I doubt they would have run out of ciggies. [bighmmm]

It did appear to make a neat landing & Takeoff on what would have been very flat tyres. Nary a wobble that I noticed.
Come to think of it, a few weeks back one noticed a DC4 topping up it's tanks on the Driveway of the local Caltex.
Maybe it tops up as it goes around the globe? It didn't spill a ghostly drop on the concrete either.
Semaphore or Morse Signalling Flags is how they contacted Earth. Very quick ones. Obvious really. Or, they could have used a Ship's Flag Hoist. [bigrolf] It did have a Red Swallowtail (bee) flying when fuelling.
Solved, I can see why it took so long to reach the destination. Look at the OP, the props have worn away or fallen off. Mere spinners won't move a DC 4 at any great rate of knots.
