Mr Shanks's barrister, Matt Collins QC, today read out a statement on behalf of his client after the court heard the matter has been settled.
"Freedom of expression for political communication is important, but Mr Shanks accepts that some of the videos posted were offensive to Mr Barilaro," he said.
"Mr Shanks understands that Mr Barilaro has been hurt and apologises to him for that hurt."
Mr Shanks's solicitor, Mark Davis, said no damages had been paid to Mr Barilaro and none of the material in question had been removed from the friendlyjordies YouTube channel."
Well that's settled then[biggrin] The significant extra money the publicity gives to Mr Shanks was not given to mr Barilaro""
""Our client will not be paying a single cent in damages to Mr Barilaro. Not one video will be taken down," Mr Davis said.
He said Mr Shanks had been denied the defence of truth "because of the parliamentary privilege enjoyed by Mr Barilaro".
"Under the circumstances, we are more than satisfied that the action has been withdrawn."
Mr Davis said Mr Shanks had agreed to stop selling merchandise featuring Mr Barilaro upon his retirement from politics."
Its over or is it "In a statement posted on Twitter, Mr Barilaro indicated that his legal fight was not over."
