    On the subject of tractors.....

does anyone know where I can get a usable (ie: cheap) starer motor from for an International Haverster 434 (probably shared with B250, B275, 414, 424, 434, 444 etc).

I just whipped the one that stopped working again .... and I reckon fixing it is beyond me

Looks like your starter just needs brushes. You should be able to get brushes on ebay or maybe Bearco.
I think bearco has starters available but they have an inbuilt solonoid, my 414 and earlier Inter tractor have a pullrod for connecting the starter gear.
I think there are also later inters with a similar starter motor.

I guess it doesn't show in the pictures, the commutator is about 3 microns thick, is flat in several spots and broken. Its beyond my meagre repair skills I have also found these starters are not cheap new !!! (hopefully that means they are not chinese ****, and the replacement will last 60years too ? ).

Just to be helpful, I burried an implement behind the tractor at the furtherest point from the house .... before running it out of diesel and flattening the battery then killing he starter motor. I'm guessing it now lives at the bottom corner of the paddock. On the positive side, I sure don't need to worry about anyone stealing it

If there is one thing worse than two men taking about the inner workings of a Land Rover it's two men talking about the inner workings of the tractor family. Then to think the aforementioned two men own Land Rovers too....No wonder people think us Land Rover folk are weird
I think if you tried Ebay for parts it might be the easiest route. Some suppliers will probably do repairs too. Damn it, I'm in the conversation too. There really is no hope.

Also available from your local Bare Co stockist for a similar price. I'm not finding any without a solenoid though.

Thanks! That is the exact thing I found on ebay for about $400 .... $400 is waaaaayyyy better than "not available". but it still doesn't help I don't have $400 to spend right now

As an old farmer, I am attracted to any mention of old tractors , I still have two David Browns,a 1949 Cropmaster, and 1964 DB 950 implematic . The dual seat cropmaster would have been ideal for giving one of your female best friends a lift, so Spud next time you are on a road run , give me some months notice, I will drive the old Cropmaster overland .... might be a bit tricky as Tassie and Ireland are both , well,......islands , then you could give the aforementioned lassie a ride.

I knew a bloke who was a Field Serviceman for the David Brown distributor. He told me it was a brave man who took the top off a semi-automatic David Brown tractor transmission out in the paddock.

To drive from Tas. to Ireland you need to wait for the dry season.
