    Rooftop or swag???

Lads just need some feedback while fitting out my LR3...the question is:

Should I invest in a rooftop tent or a swag and rack thingy 😁🙃👍

Note - if you haven't guessed already... I'm new to camping 🙂

More than you've asked for, but take what is of use to you.
You'll have to consider what type of camping you want to do and where you want to go. A roof top will lessen your overhead clearance and affect the CoG.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

Pros and cons for each, swag works for me solo or plus 1. Otherwise tent or camper trailer.

I recently went through very same dilemma and ended up with swag for 2 weeks bush trip, most cars had roof top tent. There are pros and cons for both opinion such as in terms of comfort, camp safety and practicality, roof top tent wins hands down. In terms of space, weight, cost and car’s mobility swag or tent is better option.
There were few nights and mornings I regretted my decision but overall i was happy with swag. Having said that, I would invest to rooftop tent if my family is travelling with me.
    Hope this help.

    Rooftop or swag???

Adding to the previous comments it also depends on your age and agility
Bear in mind that with most RTT’s you have to climb onto the roof of the vehicle to put them up and pack them up. Not much fun when it’s wet.

    Rooftop tent affects fuel consumption.
Add a stretcher to your swag and you should be extra comfortable. Worked for us across the Simpson and other places.

Easier to climb out of a swag (especially if it's on a stretcher) for a wee walk in the middle of the night
We have a 2.5m awning, and the two darche stretchers and swags fit underneath. We do have a camper trailer as well, for extended stays.

Yes, we have also used stretchers and swags under an awning and also have a camper trailer.

Depends on what RTT you have.

Ours adds around .5l/100km,at the most,at speeds around 100 to 110km/hr.At slower speeds, the extra fuel used would be negligible.

    Thats on a D4.

Swag or RTT? Others have answered the question pretty well.
