I have always been very active and do a lot of exercise in my job.
Some work days i do over 14,000 steps on my fitbit,most days i do over 10 000.
In fact today i have done over 16 000.
The down side my knees are now shagged.
Oh well ,i suppose things could be worse.
I'm pretty fit for someone of my age that has never been to a gym, and never participated in any sport . I do a little cycling, walking, and kayaking but still 12 kg overweight .
My 3 brothers that are all fitness fanatics and into he-man adventure sports have all had knee replacements , one had a shoulder rebuilt , one a hip replacement and one some vertebrae fusions , all as a result of their sporting / fitness activities. I still am 100% human (apart from eye implant) .
3 of us are on blood pressure medication for hypertension inc 2 of the superheroes. I don't take any other medications , cholesterol, PSA and everything else a blood test can discover is spot on
While I’m no couch potatoe, and always up and about doing something, those somethings don’t get the heart rate up for long enough and I do need to loose a few (dozen) Kg’s. Those that have only known me since I moved to Melbourne wouldn’t know that I used to be not only be fit, but extremely fit. Cycled 100’s of KM a week, played Squash at a decent level several times a week and hiked on weekends - some big ones too. I found it easier to ride 20km each way to work than drive just because, not because I was on some fitness kick, but loving my Squash kept me as good as I could be (you don’t get fit playing squash - you need to be fit to play it well though)
Life changes and so did I. Apart from my weight I’m not going to badly but I do need to pull the trigger and start getting back to doing something to lose some weight. A few years ago, SWMBO and I were getting up early and walking for an hour before work - I lost nearly 20kg over around 18 months and things were going well, then SWMBO wrecked her knee and we stopped walking and before I knew it I was back to square one...
Don’t have anyone to walk with now and the dogs are getting too old to get more that around the block or to the park and back so need to find something to light the fire again...
