In the latest edition of 4x4 Australia, they've decided to do a 'Best in Class' comparo.
Ron Moon compared the Disco 3 TDV6 to the Patrol, Landcruiser and Explorer in the 'large' class and gave the nod to the Patrol!![]()
He admitted he owned two Patrols and preferred old technology.![]()
I'll happily take my D3 anywhere he takes his Patrol, and further!![]()
I think the entire comparo was only done to placate their readership, who mostly drive Patrols. At least Dean Mellor and Alan Whiting both said that they preferred the Disco!
I don't think they've got a forum, so I can't go over there and wind' em up!![]()

surprising the prado got up in it's class.
one way of making sure it won was by bumping the disco into the next category where it could run against the patrol.
but then the disco was also in the luxury category.
these comparisons bore me to tears, but i guess i'm gonna have to read it to try to find out WTF they did things that way

C'mon Ron! That wouldn't be any fun. I like this forum and am not interested in having a slanging match here! And not with the editor! If they had their own forum, it would be frequented by enough one-eyed jap 4WD drivers to create some action!
I find it funny the way some jap 4WD owners get so worked up about how great they think their cars are, and get so one eyed; when they should be more egalitarian like me (and accept the fact that Landies are better!![]()
i left my mag at work!
i didnt think much of their comments on the fender130 in the ute section.
noddys ''Journalistic credibility'' topic springs to mind.![]()

Hmm,
years ago I was out with a mate around Woods Point in Vic. We caught up with another group of 4wheelers who were having trouble on a hill. Abbott Creek or Abbott Link from memory. After waiting for a while we got talking to them and they said they were following a set of 4 x 4 Australia trip notes in the mag. There was no warning about the condition of tracks in the mag. Unfortunately the guys in front had a rank beginner with them who had just purchased a second hand Bronco. To cut a long story short the guy in the Bronco made a serious mistake by putting his foot on the clutch with out the brakes on and shot off backwards down the hill. Luckily (for me) there was a curve in the track as my Rangie was 1st in line at the bottom of the hill. The Bronco was stopped by the second tree off the edge of the track and the driver was saved from probable death from the trip into the gully way below. A very long recovery followed and I got home at 4 in the morning the next day. Could not just leave them there.
When my mate sent pics and a letter to Ron Moon who was editor at the time asking that warnings be put on any trip notes in the mag he did not even get a response from him. Had no respect for anything he has written since. Anyway, you only buy those mags for the adds dont you as everyone has a different opinion of what is a good and bad vehicle. Its a shame to see biased reporting by people who may be able to influence newcomer 4wders though.

I glanced through the mag at the newsagent, saw the result an didn't buy it..............IMHO there is no credibility to a mag and "journo" that pushes yesterdays technology and design

We are probably as bad as any Toymota or Missin' owner when it comes to brand loyalty. They think their vehicles are the best - whereas we know ours are.
However, I do think that LR owners are more likely to acknowledge that LRs do have problems and to discuss them. It often seems that the owners of Japanese vehicles would ever say their brand of car has problems.
LR owners also seem more willing to concede the good points of Japanese vehicles whereas Japanese vehicle owners would never concede that LR have ever done anything right.
