hi guys

we are hoping to get some dogs very soon and we were wonding whether there actually any places you can go 4wd and camp and take dogs with you ????

we know you can't take them into national parks and things.........

its just we don't really know anyone here yet so if we go on a 4wd camping weekend we wouldn't have anyone to look after the dogs there for would need to take them with us......

thanks

dullbird,
it can be done.
any state forest is ok to have dogs in. some recreational reserves run by the NPWS are ok if on a lead. the state forests may also insist your dog is on a lead in some of the designated camping areas.
but as you said, national parks and conservation parks/areas are no go for domestic pets.
within the lroc, some trips are dog friendly. it's just a matter of asking the trip leader if it's ok.
i'd love to run a dog-friendly trip, but i've always found my rotty-cross-border collie bitch leads all the dogs on nature walks and they don't come back for hours.
very frustrating.

Hi dullbird as the others said it can be done, just not in national parks which you already knew. I dont take any of our dogs simply because we have 5 and i wouldnt expect any other campers to put up with our 5 dogs running around.

When i host the BBQ's at my place i dont allow dogs for the simple reason that we have 5, if a few other brought dogs there would be simply to many. Another reason is one of our dogs is unpredictable with other dogs, as we found out at the first BBQ when Redback brought his dogs along. Cleo just didnt like the other dogs around and it is unfair to have her locked up in the house all weekend so other dogs can have a good time. I personally love dogs and the more the merrier in my book, but stacey is paranoid a fight will break out one will end up hurt. Matt

I have a dog (labrador) but I'd never take him 4WDing - i don't believe in dogs being taken on group trips. Why should others have to put up with someone elses dogs?

If we go away, we board the dog in a kennel.

I like to take my dog with us if we can. The reality is if someone does not like dogs then they do not have to come with us. That simple. I am very cautious though especially where other dogs are concerned. Not everyone actually has any respect for others when they take dogs though.

They love nothing more than time in the bush. Just watch out on the bumpy stuff. I have them in a harness...stops them head-butting the windows
