What is the best/cheapest option for paying a UK vendor $500, direct deposit, Mastercard or PayPal, whith whom I don't have an account?

Hi V8Ian, I use PayPal by far the most convenient. Just set up an account online and link it with an existing credit card/bank account. That easy. Never had a problem, in fact bought a led light upgrade kit for my puma from the UK via PayPal yesterday.

    Cheers Simon

Gotta agree with Simon, way safer as well. There is a degree of protection with PayPal purchases if the item doesn't arrive or is damaged/different from described.

When I sell stuff on eBay I'm not a fan just because of the fees charged to the seller but as a purchaser its great.

If you want to buy internationally often, open a VISA account that does not charge overseas transaction fees.
A couple that come to mind are Citibank or ING.

Link your PayPal to that and its the best of both Worlds.

To be honest I didn't know that ING didn't charge international fees until I accidentally bought something on that card while OS. Their exchange rate seems much better than other banks also. Now I use mine for all ATM transactions OS.

My main card has travel Insurance and Qantas points , but they are getting worth less and less.

I have a Latitude 28 Degrees Mastercard. They don't charge foreign exchange fees. You can input or withdraw cash at any ATM. I used it for overseas purchasing when Brian's Retirement Sale was operating and used it across the USA when travelling. No problems ever. They are quick to respond to "suspicious transactions". I paid my hospital bill of $3,000+ on it and had an SMS within 30 seconds about a large transaction "Was it you?"

I use paypal linked to a credit card. One of the main reasons is because the overseas seller does not get to see your credit card details during the transaction.

Job done, used PayPal without opening an account. The waiting starts.
