WHY?
There is a Massive difference between a Hilux/Landcruiser ute and a 100/200 series wagon, one is for Work and the other is for pleasure.

I never said the toyotas i owned were work utes the hi lux was an SR5 the Landcrusier was an 80 series both diesel if I was going to drop $80,000 to $120,000 on a ute it would most likely be a Ram but carn't see the point in spendind huge money on a car,
Totally agree.
I know a few farmers, and been to a few stations and the only reason they seem to buy these is to “look the part” so to speak, and move the gentry when visiting about the property. Other than that, the wife uses it to cart the kids and do the shopping,,, again “ in monetary style fashion”.
Its not until they get some age on them or are second hand, that they really start to get used for what they were designed or are capable of. (Admittedly Disco’s and Rangies are treated the same way, and probably more so). But they’ll all have the tray’s and utes out the back or in the shed, and quite often one of each or two trays.
To be fair, they also badge the Prado as a Landcruiser. Just as LR now badge the new Disco as a DEFENDER. It's just a badge.

One of my first 4WD's was a Nissan G60.
It was as rough as guts But it was pretty much Unstoppable with a Ton of grunt for a 4WD from that era, Unfortunately the body rusted away on it.
