Didn't bother reading a lot of the links but have to agree with Leunig. That cartoon was just so on point about those doing anything but concentrating on what they should be doing.
I take a short drive every morning to get the local rag and see the same people, mostly women, sometimes obvious grannies, pushing the kids along into the rising morning sun and the little one is squirming around with little hands up across their face in an obvious attempt to shield their eyes from the sun.
Mum, dad, grannie, grand dad what ever is not doing anything except read the phone. Absolute bloody disgrace and I really have to stop myself from pulling up and giving them a very large piece of my mind about it.
Sod the side issues, kids are being neglected by many who are totally addicted to their stupid phones and social media things.

No links, but let's not forget Wally and the Major, or The Potts... Stan Cross wasn't born here, but he belonged.

Oh, have we mentioned Ken Maynard? The Ettomogah Pub series in the Post. Not satirical, so I guess OT, but there were some gems.

And now I have to introduce a ring in from NZ. Murray Ball. I came across him in the old Telegraph in Sydney, 40 something years ago, where his Stanley was syndicated. Little did I know that he would amuse me for over a decade with the wonderful Footrot Flats. I hope I never forget the one with Cooch, Wal, the tractor and the changed river. I can shake with laughter just remembering that one. If I ever get another dog it will be called Dog. Not sure I want a cat that deserves the name Horse..

An opinion piece by Jan Fran in News.com.au:

    Leunig’s 500-word self-pity party
Michael Leunig was blasted for his tone deaf cartoon attacking young mums. His 500-word defence was even worse.

Murray Ball and John Clarke should both be enshrined as New Zealand national treasures.
I grew up on Peanuts, The Wizard of ID, Andy Capp, Hagar & Footrot Flats. I still have every Footrot book published.

I've also got a lot of Dean Alston. Acerbic editorial cartoons are a dying art.

I bought my nieces a pair of Tshirts that simply stated, "Mum, get of Facebook and feed us." So I don't Leunigs latest "outrage" is anything vaguely off the mark.

I never cease to be amazed by social watchdogs who take the high moral ground over so many petty things. Been the same thru the ages, women bathing in public, rock and roll music, the list is endless. There is even an emoji for it. I'm sure Pickering would have a cartoon for it.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

What insightful reply did Jan have?

Do you know who else has had a lifelong special interest in the mother-infant relationship? Mothers. And women. But how would we ever hear about it unless there was a keen-eyed cartoonist waiting in the wings to decipher this all-female gobbledygook?
    Duh!

yeah, only women are allowed to have a special interest in the mother infant relationship with children, and anyone else that does is almost certain to be a misogynist, unless he follows the (feminism)party line too.
Woe to any non female person that express an external point of view that don't conform to the sheep herd's

So it seems that all women(mothers or not), throughout history only have a special interest in the mother infant relationship .. does this include the 450 mothers per year that murder their babies in the US too(FBI stats)?
I'm assuming that this stat falls under the special interest category as well?
Or is her nano second attention span so so debilitating that she can't recall the stories of women killing their babies/children throughout history.
Two standout articles in Melb in recent years.
1/. the woman in Heidelberg that kills her child(in a PRAM!) claims that a black guy kidnapped her child .. etc. Later turned out that she did it.
2/. a while later the woman in Truganinna that drove her car with 3 kids into a lake, I think 2 died(sorry can't recall the entire story), mum survived.

But of course I'm a misogynist(too now), because I prefer to deal with reality and info, and not the hippy utopian politically correct mindset.
And the likes of Fran won't have it any other way. Nope! .. only all mothers, and women, through the entire course of human history can only ever have this special interest in mother child relationship .. and no one else!!!
Non mothers and women need not apply!

But of course we have to forgive the 'special interest' that the Heidelberg woman had with her infant .. who claimed that the child was possessed. She wasn't the pariah here, nope! no sirree.
Heidelberg woman is to be forgiven, and special assistance given too, and nurtured.

Leunig on the other hand .. must be burned at the stake! .. Damn him! .. such an evil man. Obviously anti female, anti infant .. some could even argue anti pram too!
I'm surprised that there hasn't been mobs in the street calling to persecute him for his immoral entertainment.
    Arthur.

All these discos are giving me a heart attack!
