By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

I went to reverse park at a Motel in Cooma (opposite the Southern Cloud Memorial) some years back but obeyed the sign not to Reverse Park but it was not to put shopping in the boot but to stop the black exhaust staining the white Paintwork on the wall.. Seems to have worked for them.

They are on a defined benefits scheme and yes it is taxed like you and me.

Now the rules that allow them to get super is a crock but they are taxed at the appropriate tax rates on their pensions.

Superannuation pensions paid from a Super. Fund are not taxable except for Commonwealth Public Service Pensions. This is because these are not paid from a fund but from consolidated revenue. The government never put any money into the CSS fund so the ATO regards this as income not a super. pension. In fact, some time ago the then govt. treated the govt's contributions as a hollow log and took their share out to bolster the budget and future payments were then made from consolidated revenue. Earlier still (the older ones amongst us will remember this) the then govt. took the funds that were the Social Services fund into the treasury. Do you remember the income tax return then was referred to as the income tax and social services contributions.

    Grumpy...

Just getting a feel for this thread now!

If I read or hear the TV announcer say "One out of five Australians are...………" one more time I shall smash the TV.

Does no-one know how to speak correctly anymore.

Don't start me on "For free "!

    Roundabouts! Gahh!

Drivers who have no idea of how to signal at a roundabout, e.g., signal right when going straight ahead, don't signal at all, don't signal when exiting the roundabout.

Drivers who assume that they have right of way because they are approaching from the right even though I am already in the roundabout. They don't slow down, they blast through with their hand on the horn.
