I haven't touched any cash or had any in my wallet since late last year. Its redundant.
Community people are a little different.
The money goes into their bank account, they take the money out of the ATM, then they do their shopping.
They also buy their shopping in 3 or 4 lots, important stuff like food, baby food first, total off & pay for it, then fishing & camping gear & toys etc, total off & pay for it, then smokes, lollies & ice cream. All the same customer. It can be a little annoying when your flat out.

Over the years EFTPOS has become about 45% of sales but a lot of people still use cash.

A lot of Tourists (not that we have any this year) are amazed we have EFT, ATM, internet, 4G mobile etc.
It amuses me, were in the bush, not the dark ages.

There is no way the cash economy is going to disappear overnight.

The main thing that has affected it lately is Govt legislation, about using, and moving, certain quantities of cash.

We use it here and there, haven't had an issue.

Sometimes, for whatever reason, its good not to have a paper trail, and get quite large discounts at times.

You to eh Mick?. Mine rats my wallet when she is short knowing full well she won't find any because it was probably 18 months since gave me any.

Don't forget the poor olde Fridgies would go to the wall without a small after hours top up now & then,Paul.

I used to keep a change jar, but strangely, it was always empty when I needed coins. Funny that.

Going without cash is great - until you need to pay someone where there is no mobile coverage, or the phone system and internet are down again, or your bank has had another attempt to update their 1970s software, or the bushfire has taken out the power to run the base stations.

One of the major issues on the South Coast during the fires last summer when the NSW government told the tourists to get out was the number who literally could not because without EFTPOS they could not buy the fuel to do so - the service stations (or some, anyway) had standby generators to run the pumps, but that didn't make the communications work.

The Navigator has dug out her fleecy lined winter jacket - last used in Tasmania. Even the puppy has gone to bed. Meanwhile, I'm digging out the base for a new water tank. Grumpy old buggers thread
