As it is always the private sector that enjoy the lions share of the profits from these games it Should be the private sector that fund them not the average Aussie battler that wont get a brass razoo out of it.
There are a squillion other things that desperately need funding in Australia and entertainment/sport are a long way down on the list of most peoples priorities.

How is State Rail a Commonwealth responsibility, did they change the Constitution when i wasn't looking. I had a look, not in S51 which is the relevant section.
But s96 allows the Commonwealth to grant money to the State , but no obligation to do so for pet projects..
