Two months later I got a phone call telling me I had won it. They couldn't work out how to untie it from the promo box so they gave me the whole deal.

On a side note, I had a nuclear physicist working with me as a field assistant in the Whitsundays in the early '80s. No chance of being the same bloke, is there?

No way. Nuclear physicists are 10 a penny these days. Apparently.

No, I don't think so, He's worked in the U.K. & the U.S., but He would've been in Melbourne then.
We've been buying a system 8 & a super 66 every week for nearly 40 yrs, had a few VERY small wins, We'd be down about $35K I reckon over the years, but as the saying goes "Ya've got to be in it to win it"!
It's the only form of "gambling" that we do, apart from maybe going to a country race meeting every year or so.

Why would anyone play a game in which the odds of winning are as little as 1 in 45 million?

    Excitement?

When we would visit the GC back in the days when SA didn't have pokies (didn't everybody) & the machines were the old "pull handle" type, one got a great buzz when said handle was pulled & one felt one had control of its action, but of course as we all know these days it is a bloke/woman/computer somewhere else in the country or OS even, that fiddles the results.
Anyway, I won't her tell you asked Mick 'cos I'm about to hit her (not physically) for a loan of say 4 grand?. That should tide me over for a week or so. Her niece borrowed a couple of grand about 5 years ago & very slowly paid it back except for $500 but try as she might the little bastard won't pay her back. Yet she goes on to Face thingy & pops up all over OZ & Grand Finals so she must have had it to repay.

If she knows her Aunt has won this amount Aunt will never see the $500 again & may even hit her for another loan. She's like that yer know.
